I saw this plane at the Bowling Green indoor demo this year (see BGSU Pic Page). It's a mostly stock PicoStick with the very notable addition of a seaplane cabin carved from blue foam meat trays. Foam meat trays are a very nice density for this kind of stuff and they can be easily carved, detailed and painted if you want to build something unique.

Omar Forberg (one half of the Dynamic Duo responsible for this little gem - the other one is Fred Sanford) writes:

The winters get very long in Minnesota and cabin fever can produce many strange things, among them trying every possible variation on the stick. After the success of the S-39 we are now looking seriously at twin booms and twin engines for the next Sikorsky -- coming in the spring.

The fuselage is a combination of meat tray foam for the main structure and formers covered with 1mm sheet foam and weighs about one ounce. The rivet indentations were made by swiping the wifes sewing pattern wheel.

The rest is bamboo skewers and heat shrink tubing to attach it to the stock landing gear. We did set it on water but the outboard floats need to be enlarged before we can try again.

You don't have to be twisted to live in Minnesota, but it does help.

In case you're not familiar with the history of Sikorsky Aircraft or of it's founder, Igor Sikorsky, take a look at the links below; I'm sure you'll find them interesting.

A picture of one of his S-38A amphibians that the SikorskyStick is patterned after. You'll notice that the twin-boom, twin-motor layout was not duplicated but the cabin and floats are nontheless pretty faithful and it generally gives a very good "flavor" of the real thing.

A picture of Igor Sikorsky at the controls of what looks to be an early heli-O-copter wearing his famous fedora. If you click on the picture you'll jump to a nice article about what it was like to be Sikorsky's "boss".

Igor S teaching himself to fly a heli at the controls of the very first practical helicopter (still wearing the fedora hat) If you click on the picture you'll jump to a entire article about the Fedora.

Igor's favorite cartoon. All of the pictures above came from www.sikorskyarchives.com and you can click here or on the cartoon to jump there.
