MB1 - Design Features
The MB1 looks very different from other radio controlled blimps.
Here are some of the reasons why these features were chosen:
- The MB1 uses a single motor. This allows full 3-axis
control, but compared to 2- and 3-motor designs gives much
longer run times.
- At sea level using the recommended equipment, the MB1
envelope has about 145 grams lift (28 grams = 1 ounce) and
requires uses almost a full ounce of ballast for proper buoyancy.
The basic configuration works great with only the forward set
of wings as shown on the video page, but all kits also
include all materials needed to build the optional rear wings.
- The envelope is 40" long and 30" high when inflated.
It's small enough to fly in all rooms but still large enough to
use standard r/c radio gear and batteries.
- The specially-designed NYBLIMP servo mount allows servos to be
removed or installed very quickly so you can easily move a single radio among
several different blimps or airplanes.
