These are fairly easy. As mentioned before, detailed instructions with pictures are coming.
- Rubber Ducky Flexible Antenna: On any radio that will be handled by kids, consider installing a rubber ducky flexible antenna. It does not reduce range at all, and they will not bend it or poke their eyes out. A good, simple, safe mod. Various people make these, but Ace appears to be out of that line of business for now. Will add companies/prices at some point. Your hobby shop probably has them already, or can order one. I installed an old Ace one on a Hitec 3SS tx recently. It went in fairly easily and works great.
- Dual Rates: It's fairly simple to add dual rates if you don't have them, but you need to see a schematic. This will be coming up.
- Differential Thrust: for the duckie, tanks and other similar things, you need two sticks moving up and down. If you have a 2-stick, 2-channel Attack radio, take off the back and release the two tabs that hold the right stick in place. Cut 2 notches as required to seat the tabs with the stick moving up and down, seat the stick in place, put the cover on, and you're done. The Hitec Ranger is also easy to work on, but watch out, some radios have the gimbal molded into the front of the case and this mod is impossible.
- 1 transmitter, 3 sticks: I did this one a few years ago when I originally built the sub. To steer with differential thrust you need to have two sticks moving up and down (Y-axis). I also needed a 3rd stick in the same axis for the diving motor. After a long time, I finally cut two Futaba gimbals in half, mounted a stick in each one, and hooked them both in place of the left stick on an Attack Tx. The standard Futaba unit is quite sturdy and this was surprisingly easy to do and quite strong. Clearance had to be cut in the Tx shell for a pot which stuck out somewhat, but this never gave any problems. (click for pictures)
