The main topic for the July meeting was the One-Stick Design Contest started by Tom Hunt (Model-Air Tech). He supplied everyone with a free Speed 400-type motor and a set of design rules. (Complete rules to come)Basically, the airframe had to be made from a single size stick such as 1/8" x 1/4". The size was up to the individual designer/builder, but it had to be only one used. It could be tapered or laminated however. Plywood was allowed only in the motor mount, landing gear mount and wing mount. Final scores were derived by a combination of the flight times and the size of the battery pack. Smaller/fewer batteries increased the score considerably more than longer flight times. (Stats on each plane and its performance to come.)

The plane is designed to fit inside a heavy cardboard box that can be carried as carry-on luggage.
Note that the transmitter, charger and other bits fit inside too.
