The Mario Page

Mario DiDiego is one of the many interesting SEFLI members and he usually has something interesting up his sleeve. At the last meeting he brought a small CO2 -powered indoor flyer he designed. He did not spend too much time searching for a name and so the creation ended up called "Airplane" (:-) He rigged a very nice throttle control for the motor and he's controlling the plane with a 3-channel Z-TRON infrared Tx / Rx he assembled.

Wingspan is 30" and the weight with 13 CC tank is 2.8 oz. The motor is a G-MOT 120 Twin. Controls are throttle and elevator. The rudder is fixed in flight but has a moveable section so the plane can be trimmed. The wing rests on a few small pieces of carbon fiber micro-rod tied and CA'ed together.

Mario is a self-described "nut" who used to work for AIL - Airborne Instruments Laboratory. He's built many things in his career, some great, some silly and he's equally proud of both. One of the more silly ones was a suitcase with a giant gyroscopic flywheel built into it. They would set it up on a hallway and ask some unsuspecting soul to walk it down the hall and around the corner. The suitcase was heavy but otherwise easy to pick up and walk away with. However, the spinning gyro inside resisted attempts to deflect it, so the entire suitcase could be moved backwards and forwards, but it was inexplicably impossible to turn in any other direction.
